Always on the lookout for quality new talent, Digiprana Records’ latest member is already creating a buzz before his first EP for the label even drops. And for good reason, Rey Santiago has been making a name for himself in San Juan, Puerto Rico for several years now, opening for Mauro Picotto and Tiesto before energetic crowds that have embraced his progressive style.

Rey has also been doing the rounds in Latin America, where he performed in Argentina at Umma, Jackos Club, and the InStereo Music Fest which he headlined. His music has also reached the masses via FM Beat 90.5, as well as Metro 95.1, where Rey’s original production “Friday Punch” received airplay on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sequential broadcast.

Having recently moved to New York City from San Juan, Rey soon hooked up with Digiprana to collaborate on the remixes and release of his “Friday Punch” production. While the EP is likely to be released in late 2008, you can hear Rey Santiago in the mix now with JD Turbine on Digiprana Sounds via 90.3FM in New York . . .Click the logo below to stream or right click and save as to download the broadcast . . .

Locklear and Poppin have established themselves as influential creative minds at the center of the Dallas Tech house scene. Along with the TEKSUPRT monthly @ Absynth, and appearances at Lizard Lounge, Minc and Whiskey Bar, the duo has been hard at work producing original material and remixes for Digiprana, 1980 and a number of other electronic music labels. When not in the studio, the boys run their own underground fashion brand JUNKYTEES, worn by the likes of Tommy Lee, Donald Glaude, and well, yours truly of course!

While I was in Dallas this past weekend, the duo took some time off from producing their next EP to put together a guest mix for my Digiprana Sounds broadcast (not to mention whip up a mean Dallas BBQ). To hear their selections along with a 30 minute excerpt of my Saturday night DJ set @ Lizard Lounge featuring Lock and Pop’s latest productions, click their picture above or the Digiprana logo below. While you are listening to the mix, be sure to check out the JUNKYTEES site by clicking the banner below . . .

post UBERZONE, LEFT/RIGHT & JD TURBINE: Digiprana Record Release Party @ Lizard Lounge in Dallas

May 8th, 2008

Filed under: Posts — digiprana @ 5:30 am

Except when the NY Giants play the Cowboys, I love Dallas, Texas and its electronic music scene. This past weekend I got a chance to continue that love affair (see below) at the LIZARD LOUNGE in support of UBERZONE, and two forthcoming DIGIPRANA record releases, the “PENUMBRA” and “CONCRETE BOUNCE” EP.

1boardjdcrowd.jpg

Hometown, breakbeat phenomena LEFT/RIGHT (aka Chris and Justin, pictured below) set off the night in the main room with their signature, sub-poundin’ breaks.
Chris and Justin, who co-produced this “Break the System” event, seized the opportunity to feature their forthcoming productions “SHAMAN” and “CONCRETE BOUNCE”, as well as their “WE HATE YOU” remix from the “PENUMBRA” EP, giving the crowd a taste of their soon to be released tunes on DIGIPRANA.

2boardleftright.jpg

Always a hard act to follow, I picked up (see far left below) where LEFT/RIGHT left off, opening up my set with Autophase’s madchester rave remix of a Tom Collingburn tune entitled “Dark Riser” from the PENUMBRA EP. Not a minute after mixing into my first track, my good buddy and JUNKYTEES owner, Jacob Bailey (aka Locklear) showed up in the DJ booth to check out my set and Left/Right Boombox T-shirt by Junkytees (see picture top center below).

3boardjdandpeeps1.jpg

After a floor-poundin’ back-to-back set with Locklear @ Afterlife in Dallas the night before, I was well prepped to get the Lizard Lounge crowd moving early with tunes like “There’s Only One” by Lula & Alan T (KULT records), and “Dark Riser”, Locklear and Poppin’ remix on DIGIPRANA.

4boardjduber.jpg

With the dance floor tuned in to the Digiprana Sound from yours truly, headliner UBERZONE (pictured far right above, and far left below) got his rig sorted and ready to deliver his signature, live digital set. After workin’ the main floor for 90 minutes, I closed my set by premiering Locklear and Poppin’s brand new tune entitled “Future Sound” before turning the controls over to UBERZONE to deliver the peak-time performance (see below).

5boardubber.jpg

Locklear and I caught up with Uberzone after the show to talk shop and sort out Uberzone’s guest DJ appearance for June 5th on Digiprana Sounds. Meanwhile, Chris (aka “Left”) did his best to cater to the LEFT/RIGHT friends and fans already rockin’ their Boombox T-Shirts by Junkytees.

6boardlast.jpg

Check out Beatport, DJ Download and other fine digital retailers for the “Concrete Bounce” and “Penumbra” EPs out soon on Digiprana, as well as Uberzone’s “Ideology” album out now on Nitrus records.

New York City’s own “Darth Vader” of electronic music, Mr. Khan Edison, was my first guest this month on Digiprana Sounds. Khan, whose tracks “Delayed” and “NY Stompin” have taken up residency in my cd book, is also the master mind behind internet broadcaster “downshiftradio.com”. With a solid catalog of productions and a new track “Rock On” due out May 8, 2008, Khan Edison just cannot wait to bring you within his dark embrace!

post DIGIPRANA VOODOO Record Release Party in NYC! (04.19.08)

April 16th, 2008

porchpartyblog.jpg

To celebrate the release of the “The Voodoo Island EP” on Digiprana Records, DJ Uch and yours truly (pictured below) dialed in a few of our local and out-of-town DJ friends and nightcrawlers to put down the Digiprana Sound @ Porch NYC this past Saturday, April 19, 2008.

board1.jpg

With support from Producer/DJ Kermit (pictured far left below) as well as Producer/DJ Eff-Jay (far right below) the night got off to a solid start. The early crowd stayed to join the late-nighters to pack the place (and the bar) as things continued to heat up with DJ Uch taking his turn on the decks.

board2.jpg

All the way from Puerto Rico, Producer/DJ Josh Montalvo (pictured far left below) delivered a techy-minimal set . . . as Eff-Jay (pictured far right with Josh) tried to convince Josh to let him play one more track!

board3.jpg

Back at the controls for the closing set was a hard act to follow with the Digiprana crew rockin’ steady, but I jumped on well-suited with my Junkytees turntable shirt to seal the deal for the late-night crowd. Shout out to everyone who came to support from Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Brooklyn and of course, Manhattan! See you at the next one!

post DIGIPRANA @ Winter Music Conference ‘08 in Miami!

April 4th, 2008

Filed under: Posts — digiprana @ 2:21 pm

wmc_board1.jpg

2008 is in bloom and that means that it was time for the global electronic music scene to make its yearly pilgrimage to South Beach, Miami for the Winter Music Conference this past weekend. I dropped in on the action Thursday night and took in the party at Nikki Beach before hitting the hotel to clock in some Zzzzzzs.

After briefly speaking with BT on the Thursday flight in from D.C., I was looking forward to seeing/hearing him deliver his “Laptop Symphony” Friday night during ULTRA at Bicentennial Park. He did not disappoint, performing a 10-year retrospective set that featured essential cuts like “Somnambulist” sung live by BT, and “Dreaming”, for which he played the bass along with Jan Johnston on vocals. Also serving up quality sounds that night were veteran headliners Danny Tenaglia and Carl Cox.

wmc_board2.jpg

ULTRA was the first half of a great Friday night for me that followed with a quick ride up the highway to perform at the GRYPHON Nightclub with resident DJ Funky Junction (pictured left in the third image above). Having reworked Funky and Splashfunk’s “HouseMuzik” track with Digiprana’s DJ Kermit earlier this year, I took the opportunity to premiere our CDR remix late Friday (with Funky listening in the booth!) A supporter of Digiprana releases like “The PT Project” and “Bonen op Toost”, Funky’s remix of DJ Kermit’s “4AM Voodoo” will be featured on “The Voodoo Island EP” out on Digiprana records May 6th, 2008.

wmcboard3.jpg

Saturday was back to ULTRA to perform with Jacob aka Locklear of Junkytees and Digiprana records (pictured in the first image above). Surely sensing a New Yorker nearby and Locklear delivering seamlessly mixed tech-house, Reid Speed (pictured above with Locklear) dropped by to scope out the shenanigans on the Sirius Radio stage. Before jumping on the decks for my back-to-back set with Lock, I caught up with Reid about our hometown of NYC and planned for a Digiprana broadcast featuring the first lady of electro herself as my guest on the show (check back in the coming weeks for the broadcast date).

My top three tunes during that set: (1) Left/Right - “Concrete Bounce” (Digiprana); (2) “Concrete Bounce” (Ali Kay Remix); and (3) Khan Edison “NY Stompin’” (Downshift). But I digress . . .

wmc_board_4.jpg

Also blending the beats on the Sirius Radio stage that afternoon were DJ Ryan Kruger (pictured far right two rows up) with biz partner Jesse Brown of Destiny Productions in Toronto (center image above pictured with Reid Speed). Dallas’ El Niño (pictured left below along with Locklear) was responsible for setting off the afternoon with an energetic performance fueled by the booming bass lines and catchy hooks of his electro-tech laced mix.

Having wrapped up at the Sirius stage, Locklear, myself and our clan did the rounds, hitting up almost every stage and taking in peak-time performances from Sasha & Digweed, Underworld, Sander Kleinenberg and Uberzone. Speaking of which, check back soon to see the flyer for “Break the System”: a one-night only event going down at The Lizard Lounge in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, May 10th, 2008. Headliner, Uberzone, will perform along with Digiprana’s Left/Right and yours truly.

wmc_board_5.jpg

At the blink of an eye it was early afternoon on Sunday, so after beach and brunch, I hit up the Beatport Pool Party and met up with one of the finest Digiprana music lovers I know, my girl Rosario from Puerto Rico. (Just peep the image center above to see our sunglasses and smirks setting off the paparazzi cell phones in the background! Ha ha . . . )

Inevitably though, good friends, the beach and sun were replaced with a late-night car ride to the airport (pictured behind the wheel below) and a sleepy flight back to Manhattan on Monday morning. Back to business as usual in New York, I got ready to host Pako & Frederik on Digiprana Sounds via 90.3FM on Wednesday night (see the post below for stream and show playlist) . . .

wmc_board_6.jpg

. . . and so we countdown to WMC 2009!
